Marine Midy’s artistic projects, named Aquavitae, are created in, around and with water. They borrow from dance theatre, puppetry, photography and multimedia creation, building a world which exists at the intersection of these art forms. "Water awakens my desire for life and creativity. Through developing an ‘aquartistic’ practice and body of work, I create and play with marine mythology". For several years now, Marine Midy has been exploring the artistic possibilities of water. She also presents it in all its mythological and symbolic variety.
Recently she has been working on creating a triptych, the AQUAVITAE project, which she began developing in autumn 2018 at an Institut français Custom Residency in Indonesia.
Taking a scientific-artistic approach and inspired by oceanographic exploration, the guiding principle of the triptych is presenting a dreamlike portrait of the ocean on stage. Through an underwater voyage featuring poetic visuals and soundscapes, this work will enrich our understanding of and perspective on this threatened aquatic world.By working on a myth, the fiction will question the real and will let us dream about tomorrow's world.
For this work, the research is focus on lights and water, on water movements, on materials used for subaquatic puppets and masks, but also on the staging linked to the multimedia setup (screens and aquarium on stage). The stories evolve with poems, specialist interviews, stories, scientific speeches and the words of the Seamen in France, Indonesia and Croatia.
AQUAVITAE is puppets and subaquatic videos show ( one for adults/one for young audience). Next to it, an exhibition kind of “curiosity corner” offer objects from artistic expeditions. Also, artistic workshops is available for kids and adults in swimmingpool : handling puppet in water.
Born in Paris in 1986, I studied drama in high school and worked with the company La Rumeur, based in a factory converted in theater. Thus, I discovered dance-theater , the life of a theater company, as well as the process of an artistic creation.
From there begins a theatrical and academic research on New Territories of Art. I obtained in 2008 a Master in Conception and Realization of a Cultural Project via Erasmus in art history at UCL (Belgium). My dissertation entitled "Open Views on the City" is about spaces that become venues for artistic creations in Brussels.
Meanwhile, I worked for seven years with the company Terrain Vague, a theater which performs in public spaces. I played in all shows and performances with this company.
I performed on the project “Snow White” with Catherine Bay, I participated in several workshops at the National Center of Circus Arts. I was a performer in "Balloon Chain" by Robert Bose in Sudoeste Festival in Portugal as well as in the Estonian Artists Collective Non Grata in Europe and in the United States.
Five years ago, I discovered the art of puppetry in traveling and met the company Automne2085, nomadic company of puppet with them I have been working since.
Also, I work as an intervener artist with children, teenager, intergenerational audience for MACCRETEIL and CENTQUATRE Paris.
In 2018, I set up my own artistic company : manOEuvres. Acutally I'm developping an "Aquartistic" practice named AQUAVITAE for which I have been receiving the Residency of the French Institute for a research in Indonesia. It’s an underwater art combining theater, puppetry, photography, video. The first production of that practice is Aquavitae show. It will be on tour in France and in Indonesia in september 2019 with all my team.
During this indonesian researches, where I have been working with the artist Mirjam Landolt, the wish came to go on further together with the aquatic curiosity cabinet. We are actually working on this exhibition.
Alongside , I’m developping an aquatic performance issu of all this works in the sea and swimming pool. It will be the third part of the triptych AQUAVITAE
